My role on The Lucky Ones has been to “gamify” the narrative & make it a more interactive experience for audiences.

I was bored with the limited ways most games give information to audiences/players. Usually audiences don't have to work very hard for it, they are presented the information in a very direct way.

Now as someone who is awful at puzzle games, but loves games with lots of player interaction (where you can barter, lie, build alliances with players etc) I wanted to create a game for The Lucky Ones that would force players to use their social, rather than logical, skills.

Take a closer at the menu...(see any symbols you wouldn't expect on a Chinese menu?)

Audiences ring a live actor (pretending to be on the till of a Chinese takeaway -  complete with restaurant ASMR in the background!) to get a telephone number that will progress them onto the next part.

If they successfully gained the trust of the performer they were given the telephone number as a list of items on the Chinese menu. The menu acted as a cipher.

This was the only part of the experience that was live & I wanted to make the most of it. I wanted audiences to share a bit of themselves, using this device to make the audience pull themselves deeper into the world of the game.

"I could hear they had a big smile on their face when they'd earnt my trust & I said thanks for your honesty" Performer

"I had some great conversations tonight - someone even gave me a book recommendation." Performer
